Hot DAM

In an effort to entertain our users on daily deals, there was an initiative to test out a feature for our users. Project Hot DAM (Deals Around Me) focuses on using a user’s geolocation when adding nearby deals to the app - it would be location-sensitive and time-sensitive conversations that appeal to our high traffic forum users.

My Role

This concept was introduced by the mobile product owner of our team. I worked with him and led the creative from concept to end, from IA - UX- UI - IxD - QA.

The Challenge

This is a new feature that will add to our highest traffic section of the site. The challenge here is that we do not know how our users will react - but we will definitely hear the uproar either way. It's the perfect opportunity to test out a new way of adding content.

The Approach

Because this app is based on the geolocation of a user’s device, the ability to add content needs to be easy and quick. Basing off of the current user behaviour on how they add content, we needed to start the journey by snapping a photo, which automatically includes the location in the metadata, before anything else. The ability to browse content needed to focus heavily on locations as well, therefore the discovery screen would be a map with available listings.

Organizing the IA to help users navigate content.

The Process

After some competitive research on similar location based apps, I structured the IA with the current user behaviour in mind. Leading a UXUI designer, we drafted the wireframes and user flow. We coordinated with the mobile developer team and refined the UI. I also dived into some interaction design and built prototypes for the developers.

The Outcome

This app is currently still in the works. From a business perspective, there raises great potential for sponsorships and vendors to work with our team. Our first phase is to build the apps first, then translating all the content to the desktop experience.
